A shocking incident of youth violence took place in Satara city, Maharashtra, that drew widespread attention and concern about teen safety and crime in the district.
On July 22, 2025, an 18-year-old Class 12 student was arrested by the Satara Police after he allegedly threatened a schoolgirl at knifepoint in the Basappa Peth – Karanje area while she was returning home from school in broad daylight.
According to police reports, the accused had been stalking the girl for several months, despite her attempts to cut off communication earlier. When he confronted her with a knife around 3:30 pm, locals and off-duty police personnel nearby intervened quickly to protect the girl and prevent the attack. A doctor who happened to be present also helped overpower the attacker until regular police arrived.
The girl suffered minor injuries, and one local bystander was also injured during the rescue. The accused, identified locally as Aryan Waghmale, was taken into custody. Police have registered multiple charges, including molestation, kidnapping, relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and other serious offenses connected with the attack.
The episode highlighted not only a disturbing act of teen violence in a residential area of Satara, but also swift community and law enforcement action that helped prevent a more grievous outcome.
